I’ll admit that I do drink diet soda – once in awhile. I’ll also admit that it would be better if I didn’t drink it ever.
I used to drink it a lot more, at least one a day, because I figured it was a better alternative to “regular” soda.
But then research started coming out that diet soda might be as bad or worse than sugary sodas.
In reality, neither one are a very good idea – the carbonation in soda messes with the PH in your stomach and can cause serious digestion issues, enough reason on it’s own to stay away from the stuff.
Then there are the artificial sweeteners. There is no question in my mind from much research that I have done and seen that we would be much better off leaving most of them alone. They are also not the weight loss panacea they are made out to be.
I would encourage you to research the subject on your own and draw your own conclusions. Below are some articles that support my point of view. There are others that say otherwise.
If you are trying to lose weight, water is your best bet, there is just no denying it.

It also leaches calcium from your bones and the pH is bad for your enamel. It's poison I tell ya!
Good Morning Dean&Nancy, Some info from a medical perspective about diet soda or "diet" anything.
Diet soda has a about 18tsp of artificial sweetner, BUT the brain does not know that it is artificial it only knows that this is glucose of some sort, the brain then sends this info to the pancreas which sends the signal to drop a bolus of insulin (about 100units) The liver then says HEY WHAT DID YOU DO THAT FOR I CAN NOT FIND ANY GLUCOSE, no glucose the insulin has nothing to do soooooooooo guess what it does do? it finds fat cells that are not already fluffy with fat and fills them up and guess what you make?.. more belly fat. That is why our children are so fat, because somewhere we were sold a package of goods from media hype and we ran with it.
Hydrogenated oils is another hype that we are sold but infact this molecule is destructive to the intima of blood vessels in fact this molecule has little barbs on it and as it travels through the blood vessels it nicks the intima and this makes it possible to have PLAQUE build up, ie: high cholesterol, STROKE, HEART DISEASE, DIABETES(most expensive disease in USA today) our children have TYPE II diabetes use to be old age diabetes. If you are gonna eat BUTTERY like substance eat REAL butter, water is always best, we are after all a bag of water us humans well hydrated humans make for better humans.
